Tepnel Launches Improved RAPID 3-D Gluten test for Allergen Control
Tepnel Research Products and Services have launched an improved on-site test for gluten, within its’ RAPID 3-D food testing range. The timely modification offers improved sensitivity for all those food manufacturers concerned with allergen control and working to the new international standard for “gluten-free” labelled foods. At the end of last year, Codex Alimentarius (who are responsible for international guidelines on producing safe food) agreed a new level for the amount of gluten allowed in these foods, which is now below 20mg/kg (parts per million) gluten. The improved RAPID 3-D Gluten test makes it possible to detect gluten routinely in previously problematic samples.
Tepnel is the only company to offer such hand-held tests for allergen control, the other six RAPID 3-D tests in the range are: Almond, Hazelnut, Peanut, Casein (milk), Egg and Shellfish. The unique ‘dip and test’ methodology makes it possible to detect specific food residues in less than 10 minutes either in foods or on surfaces. These low cost tests are an increasingly popular part of the strategies adopted by food manufacturers committed to providing assurances and clear labelling information to allergic/intolerant consumers.
